Oh boy, I need a fan after finishing this hot book!Macie meets Carter. They both have a few things in common. Macie is just getting to know her dad and is having a hard time trying to fit in. Carter comes from a big family and has his own issues with regards to fitting in also. Carter is totally intrigued by Macie – he claims that she is his artistic muse. I definitely wish I was his muse. And I did not know how much fun it could be painting.
You also get to find out more about Gemma and Cash Big Crow in this book too. He wants Gemma so bad, but she feels that she is too old for him and is having a hard time letting go of the past.
Cash and Carter have quite a few things in common – they work hard, play hard, and will fulfill any fantasy that their women want.
This is another sexy hot read from Lorelei James, and I can’t wait to read the next book!

This is the second book in Ms. James' Rough Rider series and probably one of the most overlooked. There are actually two couples in this book, Gemma Jansen and Cash Big Cow, plus Cash's daughter Macie Honeycutt and Carter McKay.
Gemma has been widowed for a number of years and feels her life is on the downward swing. Cash sees her as a vibrant, sexual woman and won't take no for an answer. Gemma is so glad she gave the two of them a chance at a life she never dreamed she'd have.
About the time Cash and Gemma get together, Cash's adult daughter shows up. Macie and her dad have never had a close relationship so when she has an opportunity to spend the summer with him, she takes it. At the same time, she also meets and falls in love with Carter. It turns out that Carter feels a bit left out of the family since he is one of two McKay men who don't actively ranch. Carter is an artist who sculpts and paints. One of the most sensual scenes I've ever read take place between him and Macie, with Macie acting as his canvas. Wow!
This book has two couples. Gemma learns to love again with Cash Big Crow and Carter learns to balance love and his career with Cash's daugher, Macie.
Reading about Gemma and Cash in the first book made me very excited for their story. Cash helps Gemma see that she is a desirable woman and Gemma gives Cash roots as he transitions from the rodeo to a ranch foreman for Gemma. I loved how realistic their story was as I have seen a few couples have this later on story.
Carter is the artist of the McCay family and us helping Gemma on her ranch. He meets Macie as Gemma asks cash for help on her ranch. Macie is getting to know her father after seeing very little of him growing up. She falls for Carter while she figures out what she wants to do in her life and gets to know his father. Carter has to learn to separate his art from his personal life and does so with the help of his brothers.
Both romances were done with heart and never once felt rushed. Lorelei has very good balance in her stories.

"Rode Hard, Put Up Wet" Rough Riders Book two by Lorelei James is the second book in this steamy series.
Ok, well first I have to say that Lorelei has become one of my favorite authors. She completely hooked me me with her "Blacktop Cowboys" series. This series, "Rough Riders" is another I am looking forward to reading as there are many books. 16.5 being the last one. The first book was amazing. I didn't love this one as much. It had all the sex and steam with intense heroes but I felt like something was missing for me. It could have been because there were two couple's searching for there HEA's rather than the usual one. I believe because of the back and fourth, I didn't have the usual connection to the characters. Gemma and Macie were strong woman, emotionally and physically and they were NOT pushovers. The heroes however, got on my nerves more often that not. Cash and Carter were hot, sexy alphas when it came to the bedroom (and other places..wink, wink) but they both had a lot of insecurities that made them a bit whiny for me. I was happy with the ending, their HEA's. That being said, I wasn't crazy with some of the choices Cash and Carter made when in came to the women in their lives.
Gemma is a widow and an older woman in her late forties. She is ten years older than Cash. She has been alone for long enough and is ready to move on with her life. Gemma is ready to ask Cash to help her on her ranch...and with others things. ;)
Cash has secretly been in love with Gemma for the past two years but she wasn't ready for him. Until now. Cash accepts Gemma's offer to help with her ranch with the intention to help with more than just chores. In fact, he makes that a job stipulation. She is the boss of the ranch but he is the boss in the bedroom. Now all he needs to do is get Gemma to fall in love with him.
Macie is Cash's daughter. Macie desperately wants a father/daughter relationship with him. Cash has been absent most of her life and lets just say he is no father-of-the-year. But Macie is hopeful he wants to be a better father to her. While waiting at a rodeo for her father to meet up with her, she meets Carter McKay, a sexy, attractive cowboy. (who just so happens to work on the Bar 9, Gemma's ranch)
Carter is an intense, emotional character. He is an artist and pretty insecure. You'll read about why he feels that way. Carter is demanding when it comes to Macie, the woman he is becoming obsessed with. Unfortunately Carter has a lot to learn when it comes to woman and relationships. He learns all this the hard way.
I liked that we get a visit from characters of the previous book, Colby, Channing and Trevor. In addition, we get visits from Colby and Carter's other siblings as well as a couple of others that will have their own future books. I'm looking forward to that and the next book which will feature the eldest McKay brother, Cord and girl next-door AJ Foster.
