Philosophy steeped in Hell, history by way of The Twilight Zone, and real life trapped like a bug under the lens of an unforgiving microscope...
welcome to the world of Alexios. A 7,000-year-old nosferatu takes a look at life and serves it straight up and unvarnished, taking no prisoners and
telling it like it is.

Philosopher, raconteur, and smart aleck in equal measures, Alexios shares his pitch-black world view and expounds on everything from life and death, religion and politics to love, friendship, family, and homemade porn. Real life becomes true horror and every day is the nightmare. His words may unsettle you, even horrify you, but in your darkest, most private thoughts
you just might admit, "He's right."

Nothing is sacred. No one is safe.

Walking Through the Wreckage Observations on Life and Other Abominations edition by Alexios Politics Social Sciences eBooks

Before you begin this must-read, ponder for a moment the thought of eternal life. Not the kind in the clouds of the great beyond, but right here on Earth, walking amongst the living as generations renew and civilizations rise and fall before your very eyes. The first hundred years or so must be exhilarating and full of grand adventures. What happens though as the centuries pass, then millennium come and go and the only changes in the human condition are the style of dress and man's often worthless inventions? Think about that as you begin to read, and as you feel compelled to lay judgement on top of judgement, ask yourself if you would have done it any different.

Alexios's meddling into the affairs of our world, both ancient and present, will often shock you and cause you to question your own existence. You will cringe at the wreckage, but still not be able to turn away, and through it all you will probably find yourself laughing out loud, because sometimes the mess is pretty damn funny.

Who the hell is Alexios? Does it matter? Does HE matter? Do WE matter?

Walking Through The Wreckage will only leave you with questions. Those will lead to more questions. At the end of it all will be the worst kind of questions the taffy ones that get snagged in a crevice in the far back corner of your rationalized mind, beyond the reach of the most reliable mental floss. He lingers in placid acerbic wisdom; like a Carousel Of Progress running backwards into an ever-darker night. Yet, as unsettling as this lingering quality of Alexios is, the most dreadful consequence of all is that you know he is right. That's the hardest part to get over.

"Get a puppy" the ancient one advises a woman who can't stand the sight of her brilliant-in-every-way child, "I've always suspected that when confronted by the horror of a burning house, even the most devoted parent's immediate natural inclination would be to save their beloved pet before their child...You must accept - and embrace - your dislike of her. The situation will only become worse as the years roll by."

No! He's not right. Is he?

"I've been around a long time, a very long time" he who walked before The Flood offhandedly says to us all, "and I can tell you that people have always been a vicious, cruel animal...you can find the cruelty everywhere - in the darkest night or the loveliest spring day."

Damn him. Yes. It's true.

And so on. Every page of this esoteric little book of essays by God-knows-who has the potential to make you cringe. The shadow of Mark Twain's Mysterious Stranger hangs in the air, but Alexios isn't bitter towards or cynical about or (most insulting of all) even slightly fascinated by the human race. He simply observes us wearing that Mona-Lisa-Meets-Buster-Keaton expression. He watches us writhe without deriving enjoyment or pain from our contortions. He isn't evil. He's truthful.

Isn't that the same thing sometimes?

This is a subversive, seductive volume which has no right to be as unsettling or as entertaining as it is. Don't read it if you prefer the lie.
Great read, a nice departure from the typical kiddie sci/fi fantasy reads that are popular these days. Highly recommended!
This dose of reality is laced with arsenic and I couldn't get enough! Historical fact, social commentary and fiction brilliantly intertwined into one fascinating vignette after another. It will make you laugh, cry, and most of all think. It will take you to the most frightening place on earth; you're very own soul!
If you are looking for a new take on the vampire genre, look no further. Alexios is, obviously, a very complex, intelligent, individual, who will make you question long held beliefs, with his provocative, and frequently, unsettling observations about life, and he delivers these uncomfortable truths , in an often jarring, yet humorous manner. One of the most original books I've come across, in a very long time, I will never again look the same way at someone who sits next to me on a bus, or passes me on the street. A must read. I cannot wait for the movie!
Wow--this book is spellbinding from the first page to the last. A unique cross between Mephisto, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and the Spike character from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Alexios wanders through a disenchanted and often melancholy world with the tool kits of an historian, a philosopher, an anthropologist, and a sociologist. Alexios's observations are sharp-eyed, clear-headed, and often, in spite of their demonic cynicism, funny, moving, and even poignant. I can't wait for the sequel--or for this amazing book's translation into a graphic novel. This book is not to be missed!
