Jake and Jill - two soldiers just home from war. Both are alone. Jake received a "Dear John" kiss-off from his girlfriend and Jill divorced her cheating husband while both she and Jake were deployed. Both had feelings for the other but respected the rules of the military while on foreign soil. Now that they are back in the US, they choose to be together and take their pleasure in one another. It's a well-written short story of a torrid, healing encounter with characters who are believable and dialogue that is genuine. It's a story that's all too easy to believe.
This is a very short read but it’s long enough to get things flowing if you know what I mean. I love Delilah Devlin’s short stories and this one sure doesn’t disappoint.
If you’ve never tried her stories before this would be an excellent one to start with.
Don’t expect any character development with a story as short as this one – enjoy it simply for what it is – hot and spicy!

This is short,quick.fast easy read for this book, but it has the story but there is a little of the development of the characters to know what this is about.no matter the length of her books,Author Delilah knows too deliver and never disappoint ....She can come up with just a little and make you a story in any genre...Its well written just like her characters Jake & Jill who both can't denied the need for each either....You will find fantasy about him/her for long period,desire unleashed.holding back for long,kinky play,hot sexy scene and as you can see,this is short tale but with a lot in it....This is another hit and loved it,anything Author Delilah Devlin writes is always amazing,exciting.. to read...Well Done!!!!!!!So,its short but has all you need for a amazing read!!!!!!!!!!!
Delilah Devlin again proves that she has the art of story writing down pat. It isn't easy to write a short story in which you have to convey so much with so little. I also have to say that the more I read of Ms. Devlin’s shorts, the more I come to the realization that she is the mistress of shorts! She manages to make me like them – and I usually avoid them like the plague because they are short – obviously, and usually miss a lot of information that often frustrates me and/or makes me wonder about what happened and why the character did what they did etc. Not so with Ms. Devlin’s shorts!
In The Long Ride Home, Ms. Devlin managed to get my attention and she kept it riveted to the last page. I was so invested in the interaction between Jake Maddox and Jill Hollister. They served together and were now home. Jake was Jill’s Staff Sergeant and while away on their tour of duty, he received a Dear John letter from his girlfriend and she divorced her cheating husband. After being dismissed on their return stateside, Jill manages to wangle a ride with Jake in his Mustang. He isn’t exactly the welcoming, friendly type, rather stern and taciturn, but Jill sees something in him that makes him worth going after.
I wasn’t sure how this was going to go, because Jake was so closed off and seemed to barely want to tolerate company. The two ride out together in the Mustang and what results is the sexiest ride in a Mustang ever! These two go at it hard and fast – I am surprised that Jake didn’t crash the car after Jill made her move.
These two are hot and sexy together and the things they do in the car are more than just sex to quench a thirst. There is a connection there and Jake and Jill connect on an emotional as well as sexual level.
Another great short! Get yourself The Long Ride Home – it won’t take long to read, but it is a hot story, so be sure to have some water on hand to douse the flames!
