... unfortunately I don't think it offered much to those past the beginners stage. I didn't find any tips that were new or helpful to me but I've been knitting for years. It should be labelled as a beginners book. If you're starting out with knitting, it has lots of tips in it that you would normally pickup with experience. As a beginners book, I'd give it 4 stars. For advanced knitters I'd give it a 1 or 2. So I compromised and gave it a 3 star.

SpotOn Knitting Pointers Tips Tricks and Techniques That Every Knitter Should Know Heather Wallace 9781453811825 Books Reviews

Wish this book had been available when I first started knitting. It is logically laid out, with tips progressing from starting projects to more complicated processes. I like the visuals that accompany many of the pointers.

It is a perfect book for those that are new to knitting, as well as those that aren't yet accomplished knitters. This would definitely be a great book to carry in your knitting bag to reference.
I found this book filled with tips and tricks gained from hours of knitting experience. It was interesting to read what has worked for someone else. There are also basic instructions for beginning to knit, though I think this one would be more useful to someone with some experience who wants some new ideas. It is well organized and indexed so topics are easy to find. More pictures would be helpful, especially in the "Finishing" chapter.
Good for the beginner or advanced beginner knitter. This book enlightens the beginner knitter of the little tricks that may not be mentioned in a class. This book will give the beginner knitter more confidence and understanding of technique, error fixes and helpful ideas and accessories to make your knitting experience more enjoyable.
This is a fantastic book for the beginning knitter. The author goes over all the basics in a complete and explicit manner, including illustrations to further explain the tips. I would have loved to have had this book when I was just starting out, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it for any knitter just learning. There are complete explanations of all basic stitches, and both the English and the Continental methods. There is an extensive stitch abbreviation dictionary in the back, which should prove very useful when deciphering patterns. But what's great about this book is that the author doesn't stop there. She includes a lot of tips that may seem random at first, but can save a lot of hassle if you know them before you make the mistakes, including information on swatching, stash-busting, and stitch-holding.

There were some tips and tricks that I found interesting and valuable as a more advanced knitter, but mostly I would say this is geared towards the knitter who has just picked up the needles.

Full disclosure I received a free preview of the book in exchange for reviewing it. But the opinion given is all mine.
I've been a knitter for awhile but still found some great tips in this book. I like the organization of the book which contains tips that must come from years of solving problems as they come up. My only wish is that there were more pictures. I still have problems joining pieces of work and think illustrations or pictures would have been handy in this section. Otherwise, this is a good reference book for both beginner and intermediate knitters.
Spot-On Knitting Pointers is one of those books that every knitter could use in her (his) knitting bag. It is filled with useful tips and instructions in a well-organized layout. I appreciated how clear cut the "pointers" were written, without the typical back story or side note added. The tips got to the point, had clear direction, and are easy to understand. The abbreviations, terms, and symbols list at the back of the book is extremely useful. I've been knitting for almost 15 years and there are times when I forget what the different knitting pattern instructions mean, so having this list handy will be very helpful. Some of the tips seem to be common sense, but for a new knitter, they are the types of tips that are unknown until a knitting problem arises. This book provides a bit of prevention to knitting mistakes for a newbie. The pointers on correcting mistakes, such as dropped stitches, are very helpful, because every knitter will or has dropped a stitch at some point. The only thing missing from this book that would have been helpful to me is directions to the kitchener stitch or grafting stitches together. This is an essential skill for knitting socks or underarms of some sweaters.

This book would make a great gift for a new knitter and would be a welcome addition to an established knitter's library to use as a quick go-to tool for those knitting questions that pop up from time to time.

Disclosure I received a complimentary electronic copy of this book to review. The opinons expressed here are not influenced by that, as they are mine alone!
